The child dental benefit scheme (CDBS) is a government scheme that provides up to $1095 in benefits over two consecutive years. It covers basic general dental services for children aged 17 years or younger, and who are eligible. Out of pocket costs will only apply if the limit for your child is reached, or if the procedure required is not covered by the scheme. You may check your child’s eligibility via the MyGov application, or by calling Medicare directly.

Your first appointment at Fairfield Dental Home will involve a comprehensive examination of the extra/intra-oral tissues, gums and the teeth. This will be followed by x-rays, and potentially photos and a digital scan (depending on your treatment needs). We will then perform a professional scaling/debridement, polish and fluoride treatment. Your dentist will then discuss with you their findings and recommendations, followed by a quotation for any further treatment as required.

If your child is eligible for the child dental benefit scheme under Medicare, we are able to claim up to $1092 every 2 years (for children aged 2-17 years of age). There are some procedures which will not be covered, and these may incur an out of pocket cost. Please feel free to contact our team to discuss further.

We generally recommend that a child's first dental visit is at 2 years of age. This is to familiarise your child with the dental practice and our team, and to pick up on any habits or problems that may need attention.

At Fairfield Dental Home we accept hospital vouchers from the South Western Sydney Health District. These vouchers may either be for general or episodic care. Please bring your voucher to your appointment so that your dentist may advise you on the cover allocated.

A digital scan uses technology to create a 3D image of your mouth. It is an alternative to taking a traditional impression in most cases. It can be used for diagnostics and monitoring, in conjunction with x-rays.

An OPG (orthopantomogram) is a 2D X-ray which produces a wide view of the mouth and teeth. At Fairfield Dental Home, we will refer you to a local imaging centre to take this type of x-ray when required.

A CBCT (Cone Beam Computerised Tomography) is a 3D x-ray which is often taken to get a more detailed view of your teeth and the structures surrounding. If required, your dentist will provide a referral for this type of x-ray to be taken at an imaging centre.
